The Colegio Anglo-Colombiano is a pre-kindergarten
to grade 11 (American grade 12) school serving the educational needs
of local and expatriate families in the surrounding area.
The school, which opened in 1956, was founded by a group of Colombian
and British citizens including four former Colombian Ambassadors
to the Court of St James. The British Ambassador, the British Council
Representative and a member of the British Community sit on the
Board as well as several prominent Colombians and elected parents.
The school represents a genuine attempt to create an educational
establishment which will embrace all that is best in the school
practices, mores and cultures of both Britain and Colombia.
The school is co-educational and non-denominational. Each division
has its own director and a headmaster coordinates the whole programme.
The beautiful school campus of some 30 acres is enjoys facilities
which include three libraries, a large sports hall, a new 600-seat
theatre, a recently-built pre-school, a new science block, scout
headquarters and playing fields. Seventy-five percent of the PYP/MYP/IB
curriculum is taught in English. All students receive lessons in
Spanish and in Secondary, certain IB options are also offered in
Spanish.
The school is traditional in outlook and observes high standards
of scholarship and discipline. It is the school's aim to prepare
students for further learning and virtually all progress to universities
in Colombia, the United States and Great Britain.
The school offers an extensive programme of extra-curricular activities
with several hundred students participating in sports, music, dance
and drama.
The academic year begins in mid August and ends in late June.
